I have just been able to reproduce it with completely new test backuppc
server on Centos 6
[root@catch9log tmp]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 6.2 (Final)
[root@catch9log tmp]# rpm -qa|grep perl

I do not install any CPAN module on the test server.
It has only two host to backup (for testing purposes) - do full dump host1
and host2 - they are all Centos 6 system. Dump host1 first, then finished,
then dump host2. and than archive host2. After that extract it suing tar
from my Ubuntu 10.10 Macbook
tar: ./rootfs/usr/sbin/named: Cannot hard link to `usr/sbin/lwresd': No
such file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/fsck.ext2: Cannot hard link to `sbin/e2fsck': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/fsck.ext3: Cannot hard link to `sbin/e2fsck': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/fsck.ext4: Cannot hard link to `sbin/e2fsck': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/fsck.ext4dev: Cannot hard link to `sbin/e2fsck': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/mkfs.ext2: Cannot hard link to `sbin/mke2fs': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/mkfs.ext3: Cannot hard link to `sbin/mke2fs': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/mkfs.ext4: Cannot hard link to `sbin/mke2fs': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/mkfs.ext4dev: Cannot hard link to `sbin/mke2fs': No such
file or directory
tar: ./rootfs/sbin/tune2fs: Cannot hard link to `sbin/e2label': No such
file or directory
Obvoulsy it is reproducable here.
BackupPC installed from BackupPC-3.2.1.tar.gz into /usr/local/BackupPC
