Actually, if you have three or more pvs for lvm (on non-raid disks), using these for a mirrored-lv is more versatile then plain software-raid as you can change/move more things around. You just need three pvs because lvm forces the mirrorlog to be on a different pv then the mirrors (which makes sense). But it actually doesn't force you to have the mirrorlog on a different hdd, partitioning your 2TB disk into [1GB, 1TB, rest of 3TB] gives you three pvs to create a mirrored lv with the log on the first and data on the second and third partition:-) Of course you only gain slower speed with that, no security. But to get acquainted with the commands its great.
