This is not making it less confusing.  One of those commands should be
a backup, one a restore.  Are they intended for the same host?   Also,
you use of sudo in the backup indicates you have modified some of the
commands, which is probably the underlying reason they aren't working
for you.

Does a restore where you download a tar image to the browser work?
If so, the tarCreate side of the restore must be correct and the issue
is the part that tries to extract it back to the target.   If you go
to the host page, does it show a 'restore summary' section below the
'backup summary'?   And if so, if you browse into one of the restore
numbers, does the xfer log part show more details about your error?
