Thank you for your input. A domain is not involved. 2012R2 is so different I could not find a way to add the Backup Operators group. I will keep looking. The user account is an Administrator though.

That basically means that the user backuppc connects as does not have access to those locations. Windows permissions can be somewhat weird. Is a domain involved, and is backuppc user a member of the Backup Operators group?
