But, then, if I set IP as a hostname, smbclient fails. Command
/usr/bin/smbclient \\\\192.168.55.1\\C -U zdravko -E -d 1
says 
session request to 192.168.55.1 failed (Called name not present)
But even if it worked, another PC at this IP (as it is dhcp) would overwrite 
backup.

huh! It seems to be so close, since automatic backup works!
So, the way to handle dhcp manually would be:
- normal config as it is
- on manual start:
  it should first scan network finding IP
  start backup as usual

I'm not sure why scan to other networks doesn't work. As I look into code it 
seems ok.
It is probably a small error to fix.
Manual ping would be a bit more tricky.

BackupPC looks like it is worth the effort, though. Backup is not a trivial 
task.
