There are several differences.   It uses the native rsync at both ends
and thus should be faster, it uses md5 hashes to identify matching
content even if the filenames/locations don't match so the initial
backup of a new remote host might copy much less data, and the pooling
does not use hardlinks like v3 so it should be much easier to use
rsync to replicate the whole archive offsite or to copy to a new
server.  I haven't used v4 myself but would try it if I needed a new
setup.
