I tried contacting the owner of #backuppc on freenode. It turns out he does not have a working account anymore, so the channel is officially orphaned.
Normal procedure should be request transfer of ownership to a new "Founder" (they stated it should be a single person). Unless I hear some other proposals I will go ahead and request "foundership" for myself (probably this evening or tomorrow). This can always be transferred later. AFAIK I could also name a "successor" to automatically become "Founder" if I disappear for a long period. Who should that be? Lars? Juergen?
