Ok, so I figured it out but it might be worth documenting somewhere...

I haven't done a from scratch install in MANY years (speaks to how well it
works once setup!) so when I setup my hosts I chose DHCP because all of my
hosts are using DHCP to get a reserved IP address from my USG.

I finally figured out that was causing backuppc to try to do a nmblookup on
my hosts which doesn't work because I'm pure linux at home and I'm not
running samba or anything so I was getting the error saying the host didn't
match the ip address because the lookup was timing out. So two things I
think think of:

1. It would have been helpful to include the actual error output from
nmblookup. I would have figured things out much sooner.
2. Why did it silently fail when I initiated backups from the localhost?
(just said OK but did nothing) and only gave me the IP/hostname error when
initiating a backup from a different host on the network?
