Funny enough (well, actually I'm still kinda pissed ... with Seagate, ... this is my SECOND RMA for the same drive.
Let me guess - Barracuda? I stopped buying Seagate drives years ago when it became clear that, running 24/7, if they lasted more than six months we'd been pretty lucky and they ALL failed inside a couple of years. They might have improved since then of course, but after reading an article about reliability based on experience at Google (who obviously buy orders of magnitude more drives the we ever will) I bought a bunch of HGST drives (in the halcyon days before WD bought *them*) and have never needed to buy another drive since! It wasn't necessarily poor manufacturing at Seagate. There were some scary firmware problems with many Seagate drives; 'smartctl' has a database which might tell you if an upgrade is available for a drive (I don't know how complete the database might be, but I have seen it warn about that for some old spare drives kicking around here) and there will be other ways of finding out e.g. the Seagate Website. -- 73, Ged. _______________________________________________ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki: http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/
