I'm adding a second external drive to my rotation so I can keep one off-site in case of disaster.
Without looking into it carefully I couldn't be sure that swapping the storage device from under BackupPC wouldn't actually cause more issues than the one which you're trying to address. At the very least I think you'd want to look at the 'nightly' processes (these *may* take several nightly runs to complete) to make sure you haven't clobbered something.
How do people handle this? What do your systemd mount/automount unit files look like? Do you use a single drive label so a single systemd unit works to mount any backup drive to the same mount point?
Generally I run completely separate instances of BackupPC on different computers housed in different buildings which are linked by fast LAN. For some systems the links are slow VPNs, but it's the same principle. It's sort of fire and forget, except there's a Web interface that you can look at to get a warm fuzzy feeling that things are backing up OK. -- 73, Ged. _______________________________________________ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki: https://github.com/backuppc/backuppc/wiki Project: https://backuppc.github.io/backuppc/
