I have been doing it that way for years for a couple of my machines that need to be backed up at a particular time.  Still seems to work fine on v4.

$ /path/to/BackupPC_serverMesg backup clientName clientName backuppc 1

The client name is repeated twice.  I remember reading the reason for this at one time, but I can't remember now.  The number at the end is 1 for a full backup and 0 for an incremental.  Should be run as the backuppc user.

Hi,

i found an old command in the net: "/usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_serverMesg
backup host.example.tld host.example.tld backuppc 1". Is it safe to use this one
from command line?

thx

Hi,

ok after some tests i find "BackupPC_serverMesg status host..." to get
information about specific host.

That helps a lot.

That would be an *awful* idea for more reasons than I can count.

Beyond that, it's generally *not( a good idea to regularly trigger
backups manually anyway except for special reasons such as testing or
if you need to generate a single backup now versus waiting for the
internal scheduling algorithm to kick in.

If you do need to *occasionally* trigger a manual backup, you shoud
use Backuppc_dump.
