You don't lose anything by skipping the very minimal tests. If you can get it to load to do a backup you will have done the same test.

To clarify, the Autotools/configure scripts which produce the Makefile in rc1 still need work. Some of the changes I made were a bit hacky, just to get something out of the door. :/ Ideally someone will step up and replace Autotools with CMake.
