As far as I could analyze in the atrib-files, since my upgrade from debian

Does anyone know's something about?

After reading your mail I recovered a directory from another user's
desktop machine to both a zip file and a tar file. I checked the UIDs
and GIDs in both files and they were as expected for the user. Then I
looked directly at the attrib files in the pool, and they were also as
I expected them to be. I have not attempted to restore files directly
in place - I feel that's tempting fate a little too much, especially
if the reason that you're recovering from a backup is because you've
already had one accident.

However, I am using the 'upstream' versions of BackupPC and rsync_bpc
and not something from a distribution. Also my testing was of just a
few random files in one directory, I haven't for example written any
code to inspect the entire pool although that would be easy enough.

Please can you give the exact versions of the BackupPC distribution's
software involved, and also please describe exactly how you recovered
the files? I have Debian Bullseye, Bookworm and Trixie installations
here, so it shouldn't be too difficult for me to reproduce your issue
if there's enough information.
