With two exceptions, the next version (2.2.0) of Bacula is now ready:
1. I am currently working on pruning inchanger volumes that have the
Scratch pool as their recycle pool (see my recent email on this). If
all goes well it will be completed this week.
2. A number of new features have not been tested:
- Restore of reparse points on Win32
- Compatibility of the new Win32 code (upgraded to support Vista)
with older Win32 systems (Me, Win98, WinNT, Win2K, ...)
- Testing some new features such as the pipe input of the config file.
As mentioned above, I am working on item 1. I am waiting for users to test
and report back on item 2.
I'll be releasing beta version 2.1.24 either later today or tomorrow for
testing. Item 1 will, of course, not yet be completed, but I don't see it as
a critical item for testing, nor should implementing it destabilize the code.
During the next three weeks, I will be largely unavailable because of a minor
medical problem and scheduled vacation, so assuming the above items are
resolved in that time, I could see version 2.2.0 being released in the first
week or two of August.
Dirk and I are working on getting bat ported to Win32. However, at the
current time, I would give it only about a 50-60% chance of being completed
for release 2.2.0 due to the complexities of cross-compiling a full Qt4 for
Win32.
In case you are unaware, the bat project is quite important since in the
volting last December by the Bacula users ranked as the second highest
priority. Although I started the project, and did much of the base coding on
it as well as the new Bacula interface to bat, Dirk Bartley has implemented
probably 80% of the current features, which amounts to a considerable amount
of code -- many thanks Dirk.
Thanks to Frank Sweetser for recently posting screen shots of bat. Tip: there
are quite a number of bat features and windows accessible only by right
clicking on items to bring up the context sensitive menus.
