I think your kernel is too old: The following is from the 
posix_fadvise(2) on my linux system:

Linux 2.5.60                      14 Feb 2003

So, to me this seems to indicate that posix_fadvise was introduced 
into the linux kernel 2.5. Older kernels won't support it, which you 
seem to experience.
