On FreeBSD 6.x, with gcc 3.4.6, it compiles fine and gets into the 
regression testing.


On FreeBSD 7.x, with gcc 4.2.1 20070719, and the local patches for 
casting, it also gets into the regression testing.

I will let these test run to completion.

FWIW, I have some (char *) casting patches too.  e.g.

-            msg = _("Please mount Volume \"%s\" or label a new one for:\n"
+            msg = (char *)_("Please mount Volume \"%s\" or label a new 
one for:\n"

I'll post those in a different thread.
