OK, I will take a careful look at the code and get back to you.  Without 
having looked at the code, I would say that the backups probably worked with 
those modes turned on, but I will be surprised if the data was actually 
encrypted or compressed.  However, I wrote the code long enough ago that I'll 
have to look at it to be 100% sure ...

I'll let you and James work out the details of ways of doing things work the 
best since I currently do not have a test environment. 

I would appreciate it if you and/or James would let me know if any changes 
need to be made to the documentation once you have determined what does and 
does not work.
