Why is there a /./ in the path?  It seems to me to be a strange syntax that 
doesn't have any meaning that I am aware of in normal paths.  

I think understanding the use of the period is important for replying to your 
question.

Well, the Plugin directive is defined to have as many separate "fields" as the 
developer wants.  Only the first is mandatory (if I remember right).  So, you 
could add a new optional field to the end:

Plugin = "exchange:/@EXCHANGE/./Microsoft Information Store":<server-name>

If <server-name> is not specified, it would use the hostname as it does today.
