The first step is to get your retention periods optimized. If you have to restore from old Volumes from time to time, you should consider keeping Full backups (or some Full backups) for a longer period so that Volume scanning is not necessary. Then even if you run into something unusual, you can restore an entire Job from a Volume as long as the Job record has not expired, which IMO is easier than rescanning the Volume and probably much faster too. In addition, you can apply a regex pattern to the restore of a Job, so if you know what you want to restore, you can reduce the volume of what is read back.
