Hello, Phil gave a good response. About our recommendation: we recommend installing *only* Bacula using the single directory install in /opt/bacula. All other programs can be installed according to the LFH. In my opinion, the LFH was not written by backup experts, and even though it takes backup into consideration, they apparently did not think about how a backup program should go about backing itself up.
In addition to being useful for backup, our one file install is also very good for doing upgrades. Prior to doing an upgrade: cp -a /opt/bacula /opt/bacula.old install new version ... and now you can in just a minute or two revert to the prior version if something goes wrong with the new version.
