I think James has responded quite well to your questions, but one piece of
information for you. We now have experimental AFS code in the Bacula
Enterprise development repository. Unlike what you are proposing, it is
integrated with Bacula.
We would be happy to have you test it, but you will need a subscription. If
you are interested please contact Bacula Systems and be sure to ask them for
the University discount.
