In my case it definitely worth it. My case: 1) 108 Microsoft SQL server databases split across 32 servers, 5-12 GB each database. 2) strict time window to do backup. 3) network speed between servers ant the storage server not as good as i want it to be. 4) lots of other crap that needs to be backed.
Well, it worth it if you can't feed data to the storage daemon from one source at full network/disks speed.
