Yes, It should be compatible with a 7.4.7 FD that is running on a
different machine. Try turning on a debug level of 100 on the Director
and on the FD and capture the output.
setdebug level=100 Dir
setdebug level=100 Client
run a backup

I had problems with 7.9.2 director <> 7.4.7 FD. Is that of interest?
