FYI, I just posted a schema cleaning patch for make_mysql_tables.in and
update_mysql_tables.in that simply removes any existing NOT NULL or
DEFAULT constraints from DATETIME fields left over from older database
versions. It also fixes one missing DEFAULT from a BIGINT NOT NULL in
the Snapshot table.
I'm pretty sure MySQL 5.7 /MariaDB 10.2 users will still need to turn
off NO_ZERO_DATE and NO_ZERO_IN_DATE from the default SQL_MODE.
