Today I was given a script that shows me how many errors my tape
drive is getting. Here is a sample output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/dan] # ./dlt
Corrected errors with substantial delay: 0
Corrected errors with possible delay : 0
                Total errors : 530
                Total errors corrected : 530
Total times correction algorithm used : 0
                Total bytes processed : 92159400560
                Total corrected errors / GB : 6
                Total uncorrected errors : 0
                Write compression ratio : 100%
Host requested Mbytes written : 69769
Host requested kbytes written residual : 149504
On tape Mbytes written : 69769
On tape kbytes written residual : 0
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/dan] #

It works by querying the drive. I'm told that 6 errors per G/B is
very good.

I'll continue testing my drives and tapes using this method.

cheers
