That was my first impression as well but I'm not to sure. From what I have read about LVM and EVMS, the snapshots are stored in unused space on the same volume. It looks to me like the shadow copy stuff allows you to say "this additional volume is used for shadow data and only shadow data." Splitting hairs? Sort of, the one thing you have to be careful about with EVMS snapshots on Linux is that the total space occupied by the actual data + the snapshot data does not exceed the capacity of the volume. By assigning the diffs to a completely different volume as it appears you can do with shadow copy....
