Well, according to the bacula manual you would have to bscan the contents of the tape back into the catalog, in order to restore any data directly from the tape. That is a time consuming task. Considering that the native transfer rate of an HP DDS4 tape drive is 3Mb/s it will take nearly 38 hours to write 400 GB to a single tape drive (whithout compression). You have two drives but this will not work.
