Bacula cannot does not spawn additional copies. It occasionally spawns a shell 
process, but those go away quickly.  It does start a number of threads, and 
as someone pointed out, these can appear to be additional processes 
especially on 1.36.x where I specifically disable TLS threads which RedHat 
has botched up in 2.4 kernels.

Have you just tried running Bacula?
