The address of the SD you specify in the config file of the director has
to be accessible by the FD on the client. So either you have to specify
a full hostname or an IP-address and if there are firewalls in between,
you have to open port 9103 between the client and the SD. Please consult
the manual, it's all in there.

You will find that the manual is very well written. It has become
voluminous and takes a day or two to read from front to back, but it's
worth it to do so. There is also a French translation available.
