Now, my last question.

How can I go from autonaming to a fixed set of volumes without losing
any backups, except the ones that will be re-used?

First, disable automatic volume creation.
Enable automatic pruning, and be careful to consider the retention times.
Wait until volumes are pruned, or do that manually. Note that the prune command respects the retention times, which delete and purge do not. 'delete' volumes from the catalog that are purged. Use the 'list volumes' command, or use bacula-web, for example, to find out which ones can be deleted.
Manually remove the volme files from the disk.
Delete as many volumes as necessary.

I do not have the option of making a copy of all the volumes as that
mounts to around 1TB, which I nor the deparment I work can provide atm.

Just take care with retention times and make sure you only delete purged volumes. Have a colleague stand next to you, and have every action you do confirmed by him or her.
Hold your thumbs, and ask the list to help with that ;-)

Thanks alot so far for the help.

Arno
