Write-protected tape? IIRC, you use DLT. Those
cartridges have a slider at the right label side.

Uhm, yup, that was the problem, rofl. /me dumb!
I write protect the tapes when I'm done with them, I
guess it never crossed my mind that bacula would need
_write_ access for a restore. Oh well!
Odder still is that the first tape was write
protected, curious but it is working now, so thanks
much Arno!

This is a good point though -- it really SHOULDN'T, should it? Restore should be an action that cannot even possibly be destructive, and I'd personally leave mine write protected too so that my, or someone else's, fool self doesn't even stand a chance of accidentally erasing the data.
