Hi, is it normal, that with autolabeling function (option "Label Format"), a database entry for the tape is created even if no tape has been labeled physically?
It is normal, although, in my opinion, not really good.
We always use new tapes for our monthly backups for archival purposes. I set up an appropriate monthly pool. Last night the monthly backup job failed, because the responsible person has forgotten to place a new tape in the drive:
That behaviour can be annoying... Usually, with tapes, I'd simply turn off automatic labeling. After all, to use the tape you have to handle it manually anyway. With disks based volumes, the volme file itself is (usually) created immediately and without problems. I stumbled over this behaviour when I tried setting up DVD writing - prelabeling is not very useful as a DVD is too small, so you'd have to manually label lots and lots of disks. And, of course, quite often bacula couldn't finish labeleing the DVDs, so that I had lots of catalog entries without corresponding volumes.

That would be better, but as far as I understand there are some problems involved.
What can I do now? Bacula thinks that there is a tape Monat-0003. I suppose I have to tweak the database manually (delete Monat-0003).
You can either mark that volume as Used or, better, Error. Or you can delete it from the catalog: delete media volume=Monat-0003. Keep in mind that any type in this comand might cause lots of work for you.
