The hardware is fine. The autochanger itself works. The mtx script also always works. (At least when beeing invoked by me manually.)

It usually ends up that I have to:

bconsole: unmount
mtx-changer ... unload ...
mtx-changer ... load ...
bconsole: mount

(which is supposed to happen automatically ...)

Configuration? Hardware issue? Debug output from SD and mtx-changer?

I don't think there is a hardware issue.

I'll attach some of my configuration here.

I'll try to find out how to enable debug output for SD and mtx-changer.
