I also had a DLT7000 drive die on me recently. It would write properly to the tape, but once it hit EOM, it would hang. I updated the firmward, reset the drive, etc. Cleaned it. Nothing helped. I ended up getting a replacement off ebay. DLT7000s are relatively cheap these days, so if you need to stay with that media, got get another one.
