As long as there is no earth voltage difference between the houses it will be fine.

I ran a long ethernet to a friend's house several years ago and we found potentials exceeding 50VAC to his equipment earth from the cable after it "bit" him. There turned out to be a corroded neutral connection in underground power cables from the street, which was fixed quickly, but it still serves as a warning.
