thanks for your reply i have checked the thread and i am using 2.4.27-2-686-smp kernel and is there any other solution and in my syslog i am getting the following error messages

The symptoms look very much to what I've been expeiencing lately -
see my message "Strange SCSI problems" of March 13 on this list.

Check your system logs if you see any error messages there; look
especially for messages like these: "sense key Unit Attention",
"Additional sense: Power on, reset, or bus device reset occurred".
