The times are the same. The backup server is also a file server,
which might have been serving some files via NFS at the time.
I assume the spool disk is local. Simultaneuously reading and writing
different parts of the same disk is a good way to boost the load
average. :-)
Yeah, the spool disk is a local RAID-5 array. It is possible that
multiple read/write requests would cause high load, but not likely
the cause of the consistent spooling slowdown. I can start two
spooling jobs and the backup server will start to crawl.
Alas, this is why I switched to non-spooling backups, and I'm fine
with slow incrementals. I would really like to figure out why the non-
spooled full/differential backups are so slow, as per the original
email.
Also, if anybody can reply with their load averages during backups,
it would help.
