I just replaced my Exabyte VXA-2 tape drive with VXA-320 autochanger.
I can't remember there had ever been any problem with labeling the tapes
before. Blank brand new tapes could be labeled staright from the package, I
think. But I haven't labeled tapes with the old drive for a few months.
Now, label barcodes console command results in the following error message:
3912 Failed to label Volume: ERR=dev.c:678 Rewind error on "VXA320"
(/dev/nst0). ERR=Input/output error.
If I set autochanger=no, there also is an error message, but labeling seems
to work anyway.
And if I run
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
mt -f /dev/nst0 weof
labeling (with autochanger=yes) works ok withut any errors. In the
following, I had written EOF to the tape in slot 1, in slot 2 there is a
brand new tape.
Is this spesific to my hardware, or has someone else met the same problem?
Or is it a requirement that tapes need to be "prepared" with mt?
