Well, If I start bacula without any tapes loaded, then bacula-sd will loop for
about one hour / drive before I can connect to it, so I make sure the drive has 
tapes before starting.

Ok, I see forward to 1.39.x , but since I mess up my database when I test my 
own 
builds, I wait for an blastwawe build. :-)

http://www.blastwave.org/packages.php/bacula  is at 1.38.11 but as you said , 
nothing different in this case.
