Hmm. I'm not sure backing up the snapshot LV is the best solution. I 
might be wrong here, but I suspect that backing that up as a raw device 
might not give you a valid volume.

Well, this error message might no be an error at all.

I'm not really fluent with LVM, but I guess it might be better not to 
back up the snapshot but the original LV.

Then, why do you want to backup the raw LV? I always thought that taking 
snapshot was especially helful if you want to access the files in a 
fixed state, so you might consider doing file based backups of the LV. 
This will also allow you to take differential and incremental backups.
