Well, my budget is definitely cannot afford LTO-3 drive :-( Besides that, it is not that I have to regularly backup 2TBs. The point is that I am returning to tape technology not wanting to save 100hours of video on 100 miniDV (or D8) tapes. Someone proposed to use raid-5, but it would practically require to build a new machine to serve as backup server. otoh, I do not believe in optical medial as DVDs, nor future blu-ray or hd dvd (the latter won't probably allow playback on Linux soon), so I'm embracing tape technology although having bitter experience with dds-1 dat. > Performance is very good - provided you have very fast sustained disk > I/O to keep the tape drives working at full speed. The most important factor is reliability and I am opting for some modest capacity in order to cut a bit number of cartridges required - dlt-v4 would require 13, while lto-2 only 10. > Please read > http://www.openstore.com/tape-lto3vsdlt600.htm so that you have more > information on which to base your decision. Regards, Thanks. It looks I'm leaning towards LTO-2 if I don't hear any advantage of dlt. Sincerely, Gour
