Possible causes: Passwords or names not the same or Maximum Concurrent Jobs exceeded on the FD or FD networking messed up (restart daemon). The problem was solved by adding an entry to /etc/hosts on the client machine. The entry referred to the NAT'ing gateway behind which the director sits.
