Yes it is opensuse 10.2

And strangely it is working again. I executed the debug command as you
suggested. With this command everything worked again. Then I tried to
start it as usual with the start scripts and it worked as well. :-S

So what to do with this???

The problem came up, while I was restoring, the daily incremental backup
started.

The backup failed with the message:
Fatal error: job.c:1752 Bad response to Append Data command. Wanted 3000
OK data , got 3903 Error append data

The restore was still running but at a slow rate. Half of the incr
backup ran fine. Then everything stuck. I am using File as storage
device. What happens if a backup and restore runs at the same time?
Could this cause an issue?

Today I tried it again. This time it did not hang but all incr backups
failed with the above error message as long as the restore ran.

Probably OpenSUSE, right? But that's not important now, I think. IIRC,
that OS version should be most reliable because Kern developed on it :-)

Interesting.

If that happens after restarting all deamons, or even the system,
something's broken.

Try running the daemons with debug output enabled and captured (like
'bacula-dir -d 400 -c /etc/... >> /var/log/bacula-dir.log') and try to
reproduce it. Also, creating a backtrace of the programs could help the
developers. If you're unfamiliar with gdb (like me) you can use the
btraceback script.

If you can reproduce this probem, it should be reported at
bugs.bacula.org, I think.
