Ok, this seems to be a problem I encountered, too. I never really investigated it in depth, but the things that happen are outlined above. I'll summarize and explain. 1. The jobs from a volume are purged because they are out or retention. The volume itself is not purged. 2. Bacula still has no usable volume, so it requests intervention. 3. The mount triggers another round or pruning, which detects the prged volme and recycles it. 4. Things work. Two things that are both documented, but work together in a suboptial fashin come together: After purging jobs from a volume, the volume itself is not automatically purged (This has been discussed some times, but as it's documented behaviour a feature request would be the way to go, not a bug report). You need factor two: tight retention periods of volumes and jobs. The more useful way to set up retention is to limit the volumes retention times, IMO. Whenever a volume is prurged, the jobs are obviously gone, too.
