This kind of thing is rather infrequently a bug, and is more-than-likely
a misconfiguration. Unless you are certain that you have a bug, I'd say
you should poll the users list to see what you might come up with. Tape
drives are tape drives, pretty much, and if you DO have a bug, it is
most often in the SCSI tape driver on your OS (which I notice you did
not include).
