Hello,

I've received a number of positive responses to this request and offers of
help, even some programmers (great!). I *think* I have responded to everyone
offering help, but am not sure because I was a bit buried in bugs. Here is a
summary of ideas:

1. Mostly you need to take the initiative to do something. We'll provide
help on explicit questions (bacula-devel list), but since we are not
employing you, it is up to you to choose a project and motivate yourself
    to work on it.

2. Regression testing on Win32 is probably the most urgent.
    - Resources: the Developer's Guide online.
    - Checkout the regress directory from the SVN
    - The win32 scripts are in regress/win32
    - You don't need to be a programmer but must know something
about Bacula and writing cmd scripts.
    - If you get something close to working, I'll be happy to help.
    - Email bacula-devel list, if you are planning to test, it is important
to subscribe to the bacula-beta list.

3. Another nice Win32 project is removing the tray monitor from the File
daemon and making it a stand-alone project. Not particularly hard, but
requires C++ programming. See src/win32/mingw32 for instructions on
building the Win32 programs. Please coordinate on this so that two of
you don't duplicate each others work. By the way, this is necessary to
properly support Vista which does not permit a service such as the FD to
interact with the console (probably not a bad idea).

4. Bat needs to be build for Win32. This is probably a bit complicated.
Building the win32 programs is done on Linux using cross-compiling. See
the reference in item 3 above. Again coordinate (bacula-devel) so that two
people don't work on the same project.

5. I need help documenting problems for Win32 and need all kinds of tips on
how to make the servers work. Robert sent a number of tips by email, but
as far as I know they are not written down. I can take ASCII text and
will be happy to add it to the manual.

If we can get a bit of documentation for the Win32 servers, and we can get the
regression scripts running on Win32, then we will have made very significant
progress for having the Win32 servers officially supported by the project :-)

The remaining items would be to have somone willing to work on Win32 specific
bugs, and having run careful tests of btape "test" and "fill" to ensure that
tapes really work on the Win32 Bacula SD.

Best regards,

Kern
