Yes... I guess you're mis-interpreting the VolFiles.

This is *not* the number of files backed up, it's the number of End Of 
File marks on the volume (this is tape terminology, of course - for 
disk volumes, it's a bit different - the Volume size divided by 2 or 4 
GB, IIRC). If you want to know how many files are backed up per tape, 
you'll have to use a catalog query.
