Hello, we are changing to backup to disk instead of backup to tape. I believe we have hit a show stopper but since I am quite new to disk backup I would like to hear others experience / suggestions.
We have about 10TByte of disk that is to be backed up and 20TB of changes during a year if every day is backed up for one year. The data is stored on a Network Appliance with snapshots. Extra backup is only used in case of failure of the NetApp (fire e.t.c.). Backups should be kept for one year. To minimize the amount of storage needed I would like to have 2 full backups. 1 each 6 month. And only use incremental backups in between. There seem to be a show stopper because this project is not implemented: "Accurate restoration of renamed/deleted files" Without this working the long time between full backups will make the chance for moved files in the time to be restored quite large. Believe this to be a showstopper for us now. Is this true? Is there any other way to solve this than to have shorter timespan between the full backups? -- John Enok ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
