Thanks. I did 2 things different, one/both might have fixed it. First I did as 
you suggested and left it with no jobs in this wierd R state. Next I thought 
back to the last thing I changed and I was actually trying to get the emails 
sent to a different address, but the address I had in the dir conf file was 
assigned an IP address in the main linux hosts file 192.168.62.4. I changed 
this to 127.0.0.1 and this morning the email came in (first time!) and the 
director is fine.

I think that's a bacula problem....because there are no jobs running  but when 
you list the jobs you see JobStatus = R (running)

So...when I got this, I delete the job!

* delete jobid=<jobid number>
