Hi, I am looking into using bacula for a slightly different purpose than the usual one, and would like some advice on what to watch out for, and whether bacula is even the right tool for the job.
What I am planning to do is upgrade server hardware; both the hard disks and the RAID controller needs to be replaced. So the plan is to I make a backup, then remove the old hard disk and RAID controller, and install new HDs and a new controller and restore the backup. This server is running Windows 2003 Small Business Server and Veritas/Symantec BackupExec to a DAT tape drive. I have a working bacula configuration that currently backs up 8 servers, most of them Linux, one Windows 2003. The server I am upgrading is NOT part of my regular backup strategy; it is normally on a completely different network (I will be bringing it in-house for this work). For the backup part of this process, I'm looking at several different options. Since the controller will be replaced, the easy solution - Windows NTBackup ASR - is out; it requires identical hardware. Question: is bacula the right tool for this job? Would I basically follow the disaster-recovery process described in the manual? Is there anything I need to watch out for? Thanks! -- Kevin Keane Owner The NetTech Turn your NetWORRY into a NetWORK!
